Welcome Back to the Fort: A Study of Community

Join the excitement and celebrate with some of the important people from around the Fort, as they prepare for a surprise birthday party for Major Ripley Arnold on January 17, 1850!

The celebration at Fort Worth’s Historic Masonic Lodge Temple encourages students to use their imaginations as they experience a rich living history that centers on the roots of our local community. Participants will create period hats to wear to the program – a prairie bonnet, a coonskin cap or a military hat – to demonstrate learning. Participants will also bring Major Ripley Arnold birthday cards to celebrate, as with the introduction of the postage stamp in the 1840’s, greeting cards were becoming a common form of communication at that time.

IFW has also created a bi-lingual book, Welcome Back to the Fort, for this program that will be provided to each classroom attending, highlighting vocabulary from life at The Fort.
